This is Day 3 of a 5 Part series about Systems that will actually work for your business!
I am in love with all things systems! I love them so much. Not only do they allow me to be productive, but they also allow me to be rest assured that I will show up for myself, my husband, my children, my home, and for my business.
Just so you know what to expect across this series, each day builds on the day before so please start at Day 1, then head to Day 2, come back here, and work your way through to Day 5.
In Day 2, we talked all about alignment. I gave you a step by step process and homework to complete and I also mentioned how Day 3-5 would build upon your completed homework from Day 2. If you haven’t completed the homework, please pause right here, head over to the Free Facebook Group and complete you Homework adding the 4 action steps you will complete in the upcoming month towards your business. Then come back here for Day 3.
Day 3 is all about how to stay in alignment with your annual goal, quarterly goal, etc. We must hack your squirrel brain and avoid all the distractions so that you can stay focused in your business. There are so many things that can draw you away from your business and get in the way of your desires to do more for your family through your business, explore your talents, and give more of yourself outside of motherhood.
Day 3: Hacking the Squirrel brain and avoiding distractions
I know the feeling as I’ve battled so many thoughts and feelings that were trying to convince me that I couldn’t move forward with my dreams or achieve my goals and even that no one would listen to me when I was sitting in my closet with a microphone. Here I am with thousands of you now walking with me on this journey.
I want to help you accomplish the same thing with your company. I want to help you to stay focused on what you are doing and avoid the distractions. I’ve learned how to turn off all those little distractions in my brain that were keeping me from accomplishing my goals and keeping me in a state of misalignment. Knowing how to hack your squirrel brain and staying focused on your goals is absolutely vital.
You can plan all day, you can have beautiful dream, etc. but if you are suffering from comparison, imposter syndrome, squirrel brain, or shiny object syndrome (or what I call SOS), you will only walk in circles and tread water going no where. Even worse, you could begin drowning in fear. If you have all these ideas that aren’t helping you put one foot in front of the other taking steps every day that leads into every week, that leads into every month, that leads into a quarter, that leads into your entire year, what are you doing?
This is why I am sharing this information with you, so that your business can thrive and you can do and be more than working in your home with your children if your desire is to do so.
Our Focus for Today: Getting in front of our distractions
Are you feeling guilty thinking you don’t have enough time in the week to get everything done that you would like concerning your business? Almost every single mom I coach has this problem. They ask me why do I have enough time and they don’t when they don’t realize how much time they are wasting on ideas, thoughts, and fears to their determent.
Today, we will work on the solution to the problem to see how to access and assess your current habits to see where your distractions are coming from and what distracts you the most. What we do in a day is directly correlated with how we spend our time so when we have squirrel brain we have to figure out where this is coming from. It could be coming from poor time management, poor discipline, poor parenting, etc. I teach about this in The Systemize Your Life Academy, where I share with you how to manage your time, tasks, and motherhood so that you can have solutions to these things which can help you avoid a lack of focus with your business.
There are many tools I believe you need to learn if you are struggling in any of the areas I have mentioned; however, one of the key things you need to address is your mindset. This squirrel brain thing is not something you have to live with. It is something you can teach yourself not to do. You are going to have to sit down and pay attention. You are going to have to get pretty intentional. This is how you hack your squirrel brain. You get in front of it!
“I want to help you accomplish the same thing with your company. I want to help you to stay focused on what you are doing and avoid the distractions.”
HOW TO HACK YOUR SQUIRREL BRAIN?
Sit down on the weekend or any day that you have off. Write down all of your thoughts. Find the repetitions and the patterns in order to determine what you are being distracted by and how often it is distracting you. You truly need to sit down to see what are your habits. Are you switching from motherhood to business multiple times in an hour? If you are, write that down. If you are solely being distracted by your phone, write that down.
You have to learn what your distractions are. You know what you want to do, you know what your tasks are, you know what you want to accomplish in your business after creating your annual plan, you know what you want to do in motherhood and in your marriage. So it isn’t an alignment issue. It is determining what is keeping you from completing the tasks that will lead you to accomplishing your goals. Now you have to determine exactly what is causing your squirrel brain. What is distracting you? It might be your emotions or fears or cell phone. It is anything keeping you from doing that next task toward your goal. Sitting down writing out your repetitive behavior and patterns will help you determine what is distracting you and why you are being drawn to it. Once you know what this is, it’s time to cut it off.
This leads me to today’s homework.
Please jump in the Free Facebook Group Business Systems Series Homework Section once you have sat down and worked on this. Share with me what is your biggest distraction that is currently keeping you from accomplishing tasks in your business. Name the specific action you need to take to block that distraction. That is it. That’s the homework. Every single time I feel distracted, I sit down to do this exercise and it absolutely works.
That is it for today. Join me for Day 4 so we can dive in a little deeper and go a little further into this Business Systems Series.
Talk to you soon mamas!
