Making Breakfast a Breeze: The “3 Threes” Breakfast System

Making Breakfast a Breeze: The “3 Threes” Breakfast System -Chelsijo

I have been interviewing on multiple different podcasts in the last month. The one thing that everyone is asking me is, “What can you tell moms about having systems for food and meal planning?” Every person asking this question wants to know the same thing: How in the world do you keep up with real, good food? Not just driving through the drive-through 24/7. That is why I am sharing my life-changing breakfast system with you today!

I am about to break down the automated way that I have figured out to simplify breakfast without spending hours in the kitchen. My whole family loves it, and I think you are going to love it too. So, how about we get started?

Listen below for the entire episode on The Systemize Your Life Podcast

Simplifying Mealtime Chaos for Moms

Now, as I mentioned in the intro, this is probably one of the number one things that moms struggle with, and it’s a real challenge because we have to eat all the time! I always talk about how annoying it is that we have to eat so frequently and sleep for so long. Can’t we just be like machines, you know?

But here’s the thing, we have to have three meals and two snacks, and probably protein shakes somewhere in the mix, and it’s just so much. And if you have kids, all they ever seem to do is ask for food; it’s endless. What I’ve come to discover is that systemizing this whole eating process makes it so much easier to handle!

The Crucial Role of Dinner: Where to Begin Your Food Systemization Journey

So, before I dive into the benefits of this specific system and explain what the system is, I want you to know that you can start with this system. However, I firmly believe that getting your dinner routine systemized is the number one place to start when it comes to food.

Your evening, what I call your PM block, is the key anchor for your whole day, your week, and even your life. Your dinner routine is right there in the middle of your PM block or sometimes it might even kick off your PM block, depending on your daily schedule.

There’s a dedicated podcast episode for that; it’s episode 8, and there’s also a companion blog post to go along with it. So, you can check that out anytime you want, and then you can move on to implementing this system for breakfast.

Unlocking the Benefits of a Breakfast System

Starting your day with a well-structured breakfast routine can be a game-changer. I call it the 3 threes, and I’ll explain what that means in a moment. There are several reasons to consider adopting a system around food, especially for breakfast.

Why Breakfast Can Be a Breakthrough For Your Family

Getting out the door on time is crucial. Whether you’re heading to work or your kids have commitments like school or appointments, being punctual is non-negotiable. A well-organized breakfast routine can help you achieve this goal effortlessly.

A structured breakfast system not only reduces food waste but also saves you money. Saving money should be a top priority, and systemizing your food can make a significant impact on your budget. It’s a persuasive argument to get your partner on board if they are all about ways to save!

Meal planning, particularly for breakfast, offers significant health benefits. It can positively impact your mood, overall health, and even your fitness goals. These benefits extend to your family, enhancing academic performance, relationships, and sports performance for your kids.

Transforming Your Family’s Well-being

Consider the value a breakfast system can bring to your family. If you’ve already implemented various systems from listening to this podcast or are new to the concept, this is a perfect starting point! It’s straightforward, cost-effective, and can lead to substantial positive changes in such a short time.

Unveiling the “3 Threes” Breakfast System

Let’s dive into the heart of this breakfast system that I call the “3 Threes.” It’s super easy to remember, and we are about to get into how it works. If you’ve already implemented my menu board meal planning system from episode 8, this will fit seamlessly into it!

The Framework of the Breakfast System

Start with a blank piece of paper, and divide it into three big sections. In each section, you’ll further divide it into three subcategories. At the end, you should have nine squares on your paper. It is called the “3 Threes” because you will end up having three sections with three items in each section.

For this breakfast system, we focus on three main food groups. I recommend starting with protein, carbs, and an extra category of your choice (for us this third category is fruit). These categories are the foundation of your breakfast choices!

Creating Your Breakfast Menu

Now, pick the top three breakfast proteins, top three carbs, and top three fruits (if that is the third section you chose) that suit your family’s preferences and needs. Ensure that these are practical choices that you can prepare and that your family will enjoy eating. Write these choices within the nine boxes on your paper, three for each of your three food group categories.

With your chosen proteins, carbs, and fruits, you’ve just created your breakfast menu. For example, your proteins could be yogurt, eggs, and sausage. Your carb options might include snack rounds, pancakes, and waffles. Lastly, for fruits, you could have bananas, berries, and peaches.

It’s essential not to overwhelm your breakfast menu. Stick to a maximum of three options for each category. I would recommend not having less than two options to have enough variety, but if you want to start out with just one planned for your first week, that can be a good starting place. Occasionally, you can add a special treat to the menu. Think French toast or muffins. These extra touches make breakfast feel like a special occasion without the overwhelm!

The Flexibility of Your Breakfast System

One of the most beautiful aspects of this breakfast system is its flexibility. You have the power to create a wide range of breakfast combinations that suit your family’s tastes and preferences. Some mornings, you can have your kids pick from the options available. Also, by getting to choose which one they want, the simple decision makes breakfast enjoyable and interactive.

In busier times, like when school is in session and your before-school routine might be tight, you can take charge. The night before, you can ask your kids which breakfast option they prefer, or you can simply inform them of the morning’s breakfast choice. Regardless, it always comes from your three designated categories.

“The beauty of this system is that it simplifies your breakfast routine. You no longer need to rack your brain wondering what to make; your sole job is to look at your three categories and pair them together creatively.”

The beauty of this system is that it simplifies your breakfast routine. You no longer need to rack your brain wondering what to make; your sole job is to look at your three categories and pair them together creatively.

And here’s where the magic happens. Each week, rotate one item out from each category and replace it with something new. This keeps your breakfast choices fresh and exciting!

How to “Systemize” Your Breakfast System

Create breakfast cards or utilize your existing menu card system, as discussed in episode 8 (the menu board meal planning system). Organize your breakfast options by proteins, carbs, and fruits. You can even have separate cards for each food. This makes it incredibly easy to plan and shop for breakfast ingredients!

Additionally, you can involve your kids in the breakfast selection process. For example, you can ask them to pick three fruits and three carbs. Let them pair them together—it’s a fun and interactive way to engage them in meal planning.

In reality, you might not need to use these cards daily. The system becomes so ingrained in your routine that you don’t even have to think about it. Even in the grocery store, you’ll know exactly where to find what you need. If you prefer online grocery shopping, save your breakfast choices in your favorites. This level of automation makes your breakfast planning unbelievably simple.

Conclusion: Simplifying Breakfast with the ‘3 Threes’ Breakfast System

I hope you’ve found valuable insights into simplifying breakfast and meal planning for your family with the “3 Threes” Breakfast System. Let’s summarize the essential steps to implement this streamlined approach to breakfast:

  • Step 1 – Define Your Breakfast Categories: Choose three main food groups for breakfast. Typically, these include proteins, carbs, and an extra category like fruits.
  • Step 2 – Create Your Breakfast Menu: Write down your chosen proteins, carbs, and fruits within the designated categories. Stick to a maximum of three options for each category.
  • Step 3 – Rotate and Keep It Fresh: Each week, swap out one item from each category to keep your breakfast choices exciting and varied.
  • Step 4 – Organize Your Breakfast Cards: Utilize breakfast cards or your existing menu card system to keep your breakfast options organized and easily accessible.

By following these steps, you’re not only making breakfast preparation a breeze but also ensuring your family starts their day with nourishing meals. The flexibility of this system allows you to adapt it to your family’s preferences and busy schedules.

In conclusion, simplifying breakfast with the “3 Threes” Breakfast System is a practical and effective way to streamline your morning routine. It reduces decision fatigue, saves you time and money, minimizes food waste, and promotes healthier eating habits. Start your day right with this system, and you’ll enjoy stress-free breakfasts and more quality time with your family. Bon appétit!
