Take Your Home From Overwhelmed To Organized In 4 Weeks

The Sunday Reset Routine For A Smooth, Productive Week

Chelsi Jo Sunday Reset Routine

November 15, 2024

Productivity

As I work with more people juggling the responsibilities of home and business, I’ve come to find that routines are a cornerstone of success. Among all the routines I practice, one that has made the biggest difference is my Sunday Reset Routine. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the week ahead, let me tell you how a Sunday Reset can set you up for success by reducing stress, eliminating decision fatigue, and helping you feel prepared.

Why A Sunday Reset Is Essential For Weekly Success

The foundation of my home management and business systems revolves around a 7-day cycle. Each week, I reset various elements, which helps everything run smoothly. Sometimes we have resets at other intervals, but a weekly reset is essential. It allows you to handle things in a manageable way rather than dealing with a month’s worth of tasks at once.

When you start a Sunday Reset routine, it might feel clunky or time-consuming. But with practice, it becomes efficient and straightforward. And even though I usually reset on Sunday, the routine itself is flexible. Sometimes I’ll break it up over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if my Sunday is packed.

“The more I study what makes people successful at juggling their home and business, the more I see how essential routines are.” – ChelsiJo

Part 1: Building a Strong Foundation

The first part of creating a successful Sunday Reset is to establish your foundation. This is about identifying the fundamental needs for your week and pinpointing areas in your home that need organization.

For example, one foundational element of my reset is meal planning and grocery shopping. I call this my “food reset.” Ensuring that our meals are planned helps us avoid last-minute decisions that can add stress.

Ask yourself these questions to build your foundation:

  • What needs to be reset in my life each week? For example, are your finances in check? Are your meals planned?
  • What does my family need to have a smooth week? Set things like outfits, packed bags, or to-do lists on Sunday so you’re not scrambling mid-week.

This foundation sets the tone for the rest of the week by minimizing decisions and reducing stress. I recommend establishing three to five core tasks that form the foundation of your Sunday reset. The goal here is for you to make intentional choices on the weekend that reduce decision fatigue throughout the week.

Part 2: Core Elements of the Sunday Reset

Once you’ve built a foundation, the next step is setting up core elements. I focus on three main areas in my Sunday Reset Routine:

  1. Weekly Schedule Check: Review the family’s schedule to stay on top of events, activities, and school obligations. You don’t want to discover it’s “Crazy Socks Day” at the last minute or realize you’re missing ingredients for a school bake sale.
  2. Hybrid Time Management System: Sync up your Google Calendar and paper planner. By reviewing all your upcoming events, from appointments to meetings, you’re able to streamline your schedule. I copy time blocks and routines from last week, making tweaks as needed for the upcoming week. This doesn’t take long but ensures I don’t miss anything.

Analyze Past Week Challenges: Take a few minutes to reflect on the past week. Note what didn’t go smoothly and what adjustments you can make. Maybe you realize doing laundry daily was a hassle, so this week you’ll batch it on two specific days. Simple tweaks like adding a trash can to your car can make a big difference in your week’s flow! Understanding your toughest moments from the past week helps you make small but impactful changes for a better week ahead.

Part 3: Essential Tools for Your Sunday Reset Routine

Having the right tools can make your Sunday Reset easier and more effective. Here are a few tools I recommend:

  • Paper Planner: While I love using digital tools, a physical planner has been invaluable. My go-to is Polly Payne’s Dream Planner, which helps me align my goals with my daily schedule. Check out ChelsiJo.co/planner for more details.
  • Communication Board: A shared family board in a common space can streamline communication about weekly plans, meal ideas, and any tasks included in your Sunday Reset. It’s a great way to keep everyone informed and accountable.

Putting It All Together: My Sunday Reset Routine

Here’s a sneak peek into my Sunday Reset:

  1. Meal Planning and Grocery Shopping: I start by planning meals, then either shop for groceries or schedule an order.
  2. Weekly Schedule Review: I check our family calendar, syncing everyone’s activities and commitments.
  3. Home Tidy-Up: We do a quick reset of the house, ensuring everything is tidy, including the kids’ bedrooms and play areas.
  4. Car Prep: I clear out any clutter in the car, making sure it’s ready for the week ahead.
  5. Personal Planning: I finish by updating my planner with my time blocks, goals, and important tasks for the week.

These elements might seem basic, but they truly set the stage for a stress-free week. Once you’ve established your foundation, core elements, and essential tools, you can look forward to a much smoother week.

What if my Sundays are too busy to fit in a full reset?

The beauty of the Sunday Reset is its flexibility. Spread tasks over Friday, Saturday, and Sunday if needed. Do what works best for you!

How long should a Sunday Reset take?

With practice, your reset time will reduce significantly. Initially, it may take an hour or two, but eventually, it will become efficient and straightforward.

Can I skip parts of the routine if I’m in a time crunch?

Absolutely! Prioritize the tasks that will have the biggest impact on your week. Even a partial reset is better than none.
