Why Goal Planning Matters
Did you know that only 9% of people complete their New Year’s resolutions? That’s why it’s so important to have a system in place for not just setting goals but actually achieving them. James Clear says, “We don’t rise to the level of our goals; we fall to the level of our systems.” This couldn’t be more true! Your goals are only as good as the systems you use to organize and achieve them.
Today, I’ll walk you through six simple steps to plan your year using ChatGPT. These steps will help you reflect on the past year, set meaningful goals, and create actionable plans that align with your values and priorities.
6 Steps To Organize Your Goals This Year
#1 Reflect on Your Wins from Last Year
Before diving into new goals, take a moment to reflect on what went well last year. Gratitude is a powerful motivator! I like to call this my “Praise Report.” Write down everything you accomplished, big or small, and celebrate those wins.
Some of my wins from 2024 include a family trip to Zion National Park, improvements in my health, and creating a thriving seventh-grade girls’ group at church. What are you most proud of from last year? Write it down!
Quick Tip: Use your planner or journal for this step. If you don’t have one, check out the Dream Planner from Horacio Printing, my go-to for goal-setting and reflection.
“Your dreams are only as good as the systems you use to organize and achieve them.”
#2 Assess Your Fundamental Needs
Your goals should align with your core needs—what I call your “Fundamental Needs.” These are the areas of your life that sustain and nurture you, like your physical health, spiritual growth, family life, and personal development.
Give yourself an honest assessment of how you’re doing in these areas. Rate yourself on a scale of 1-10 in categories like home, health, finances, relationships, and faith. This will help you identify areas that need more attention.

#3 Create Your Dream Bucket List
Once you’ve reflected on your wins and assessed your needs, it’s time to dream big! Grab your planner, a journal, or even a piece of paper, and divide it into six sections: faith, wife, mom, home, health, and business.
For each category, write down your dreams for the year. For example, one of my dreams is to take a trip to the Redwoods in Northern California. Another is to complete five pull-ups (I’m not there yet, but I’m working on it!).

#5 Finalize Your Goals with Specifics
General goals are great, but specific goals are even better. For example, instead of saying, “Get healthier,” set a specific target like, “Do yoga three times a week.”
Break each goal into actionable steps and assign deadlines. This will keep you accountable and help you make consistent progress throughout the year.
Quick Tip: Use the 5 Block Time Management Workbook to schedule your steps into manageable blocks of time.
#6 Track Your Progress
Finally, use a tracking system to monitor your progress. Whether it’s a planner, a digital app, or a simple notebook, find a method that works for you. Regularly review your goals and adjust as needed.
Pro Tip: The Systemize to Scale Program is perfect for creating scalable systems that support both your personal and professional growth.
Goal planning doesn’t have to be complicated or stressful. With the right tools and systems, you can turn your dreams into actionable plans and set yourself up for success. Remember, it’s not about doing everything perfectly; it’s about making consistent progress toward what matters most.
