My Inspiration
Today’s post has been inspired by life’s recent circumstances. It has been crazy lately. It’s monsoon season in Arizona and we have had some crazy storms. Our AC went out and it’s 100 degrees out so we have been living with my mom and mother-in-law while that is being fixed. Living with others and getting an intimate look at peoples’ lives has really given me insight into why so many of you feel overwhelmed.
It has also given me even more confidence in my systems. I’m still able to run my business, I’m able to get my girls to bed on time, we are still eating well and I’m prepping my meals. We really are doing so well even with life’s circumstances.
The Importance of Routines and Systems to Avoid Feeling Overwhelmed
Our routines are out the window but we still have systems in place. It’s not all perfect but I have it in my brain and I know how things go and what it takes to get the results I need. We are systematically moving through things.
Systems will keep you grounded and I teach you all of them you need for your home, your business, and your marriage inside the Systemize Your Life Academy but today we are diving a little deeper into the root of overwhelm in your life. Systems will keep you going but you also need to master this one thing in order to beat the overwhelm.
Once you master this one thing you will see immediate benefits in your life. I know because I have seen it from hundreds of women inside the Systemize Your Life Academy.
Uncover the Culprit – the Real Reason You Feel Overwhelm
So as we dive into it I first have some questions for you…
- When you have these feelings of overwhelm what does your day look like?
- When you open up your cabinets what do you see? Cups stacked on top of cups?
- When you open a drawer does it close easily?
- When you open your fridge do you know what is three layers back? Would someone get food poisoning if they ate it?
- When you go shopping for groceries or supplies and you bring them home to put away are you putting stuff away on top of random things or in random places?
- Whenever you go into a storage space in your home like the garage or under your bed do you know what’s there? Do you know the last time you used it and how long it has been there?
The culprit to all of this is clutter.
Clutter
The number one reason you are having a hard time is because of clutter. Whether that is emotional, physical, digital, or mental clutter. You have too much.
You probably have too much stuff everywhere, there absolutely should not be cupboards, bins, boxes, shelves, or racks, with things on them or next to them that you do not use.
Why do you need 18 towels? 10 pairs of shoes? 4 pairs of tweezers. 15,000 makeup brushes or 15 ice cream scoops? Why do you keep them?
I could tell you how many pairs of everything I have in my closet. Why do you need all the clothes? It just creates more laundry. Start getting rid of things.
How to Get Rid of Overwhelm – Declutter
I know in the beginning it is hard to get rid of stuff but you know it needs to be happening. Enough is enough and please fix the problem. You don’t have to do it all at once.
Just do the one box in the closet. You will feel so much better about yourself when you see it done. It’s ok that you don’t have a ton of time to do all this. Schedule a little bit of time every Friday night for the next six weeks and then in six weeks, your closet will be done.
Be committed to a lifestyle that leaves space. This is how you begin to save and create more time.
Get rid of the appointments, and the four sports your high-achieving child is in. Get rid of the stuff. They don’t need 15 sets of legos. Seriously, get rid of them, no matter how much money you spent or thought your kids would love but don’t touch, it’s ok.
It Really Is Okay to Create Space
It’s really ok to create space. All that stuff you are holding onto actually keeps you from breathing life into all the things you are dreaming and hoping for.
Even if the thing has been in your family for so many years. You can be strategic. I keep things that have been in the family but I don’t keep all of it. I keep clothes from my girls that I hope my grandkids will wear but I have it in one tote. I have places in my heart for sentimental items but I don’t have a whole house full.
Digital clutter. Do you have too many social accounts and sooo many pictures that your phone is bogged down? Can you commit to creating a memory album? Once it goes into the cloud delete it off your phone.
You know what you need to do and what your biggest sore spot is so you can stop feeling overwhelmed.
“It’s really ok to create space. All that stuff you are holding onto actually keeps you from breathing life into all the things you are dreaming and hoping for.”
