12 Mood Boosters
For the last couple of days, I have been feeling particularly unmotivated. I know when we get into these places they are hard to get out of. It takes a lot of discipline especially when there are dishes to clean, relationships to mend, and we are tired.
So just the other day I jotted down a list of 12 things that I do (and a bonus) that can boost your mood in just five minutes and get you out of that funk. I’m a huge believer in setting timers because our brain will exaggerate everything in order to keep us from achieving, growing, and getting out of our safe space. So the trick is here that five minutes will turn into so much more. And even if it doesn’t you are proving to yourself you can do hard things even on a difficult day. Are you ready to write these 12 things down!? Let’s get into it.
“I’m a huge believer in setting timers because our brain will exaggerate everything in order to keep us from achieving, growing, and getting out of our safe space”
1. Wash Your Face
Take all your makeup off friends, even in the middle of the day. It can be like that refreshing feeling after you’ve been camping for days and then you get to finally take a real shower. When I do this I have some of the most amazing oils I’ll then put on my face that makes me feel like I’m getting a facelift. It really only does take five minutes.
2. Add a New Lip Color
This is on the other end of that spectrum but I am obsessed with switching up my lip color when I need a mood boost. It makes me feel amazing and so happy. You’ve got to try it.
3. Get Dressed in Your Favorite Thing
For me, it’s my athletic gear. But what I want you to do is get out of your stinking pajamas. Don’t wear sweatpants. If you need a mood boost just go get dressed.
4. Roll or Diffuse Your Favorite Essential Oils
I’m telling you now, if you’re not on this bandwagon, get on it yesterday. Go check out my essential oils guide to see my favorites. Get a kit or just choose an oil. You need to understand the insane ability of these non-chemically derived oils to boost your mood. There is actual science to this stuff.
5. Write Down 10 Things Your Grateful For
Stop and go do this one right now, it won’t even take you five minutes. Flip the script on where your brain is right now. Set a timer and write about some things you are really grateful for. This one can really boost your mood for days and days to come.
6. Blend that Smoothie
Next is blend your favorite smoothie. This should not take you more than five minutes. If you don’t have a go-to smoothie recipe, come check mine out in the Facebook Group, it’s in there somewhere. Every time I blend a smoothie it makes me so happy. I know I’m nourishing my body and giving it the nutrients it needs, I love it so much.
7. Make Your Bed
Why didn’t I make this number one? I have no idea but if you haven’t made your bed yet, go and do it right now. If you can make your bed as soon as you get up in the morning, you can basically do anything. It will set the tone for the rest of your day.
8. Go for a Walk
Just go for a five-minute walk. Sunshine and fresh air can be a game changer. Leave the phone at home and just get outside for a little bit and you will get an instant mood boost. Ok, let’s roll into number 9.
9. Play an Old Fashioned Game with Your Kids
This is super outside the box but it is so much fun. Press pause on everything. If everyone is grumpy ask everyone to play a game with you! Maybe it’s charades, tic tac toe, a card game, or hangman. Just do something super fun. Set that timer for five minutes and it will be a great reset for everyone. Next, number 10 coming in hot, one of my all-time favorites.
10. Dance
Dance it out. Dance crazy town, even if you can’t dance. You can’t be in a bad mood when you get done dancing, you just can’t. Just type in ‘dance playlist’ for whatever decade you want and skip until you find one song you love. Jo Jo Siwa, Taylor Swift, Kids Bop are always good ones with kids. That’s all you gotta do, just dance a little bit for a quick mood boost.
11. High Protein Snack
This is so vital. A lot of time my energy stores is the reason why I feel crummy. I often have to make myself eat especially when I’m busy. Peanut M&Ms are one of my favorites but you will always feel better when your snack has a decent amount of high protein. Go whip something up out of the fridge and then you can dive right into number 12.
12. Drink Water
I’m not talking La Croix, or Propels, ditch them. You need to be hydrating yourself. Because I’m using really high-quality oils I love to put a drop of lime or grapefruit, lemon, or orange which is also an insane mood booster. It’s endless how beneficial these oils can be. That’s number 12 but here is my bonus tip number 13.
13. BONUS-Throw Some Stuff Away
Set that timer and go throw some stuff away, it will make you feel like you are on top of the world. It’s so unbelievably simple but it has such an incredible impact. Even just being able to make your drawer feel lighter will boost your mood. Throw some junk away, no matter where it is, in your makeup drawer, under your sink, or in the linen closet. It’s going to make you feel like a million bucks.
Do One Now!
Any of these will truly brighten your spirits, boost your mood and make you feel just a little bit happier. Go get started! Come over inside the Facebook group and tell me which one you are doing. As always this has been so much fun, I can’t wait to see what you are doing to make your day a little happier.
