When you look good, you feel good…and when you feel good, you do good. There’s no buts about it, the saying we always say around our home is true through and through. That’s why it’s so important as a mom to make sure you can walk into your closet and pull out anything and love what you wear. In today’s episode Jammie Baker shares her passion for helping moms curate a closet full of style that brings them confidence in the day to day. Jammie is a former Hollywood stylist who pivoted her career after realizing how difficult it was to navigate style postpartum herself. She realized that too many moms were frustrated with closets full of nothing to wear, so she created a business to serve them and help them get dressed. Jammie empowers busy moms with confidence to crush their everyday goals through curated wardrobes. Because it’s not just about the clothes you wear, but the life that you lead in those clothes. Let’s dive into today’s episode!

Dressing Your Body After Baby
So often us moms, especially after having a baby, we open our closet and nothing fits so we resort to leggings and a big t-shirt to hide the belly or our breastfeeding boobs.
Something my husband says is “When you look good you feel good, when you feel good you do good”. That has stuck with me. My mom taught me growing up to always get dressed for the day, put on my face, and be fresh for when my husband gets home. It is so true. It makes you feel so much better when you are in clothes that make you feel good and you are ready for the day. And hey! When the UPS driver drops off your package you don’t have to run and hide!
A Lost Art
Getting dressed everyday seems to be a lost art that ended with our mom’s generation. We lose sight of the fact that our home is our biggest place of impact and we’ve started this new era of women who get dressed to go out of the home all because they want to look cute at Target or the grocery store. Yes we should look cute at Target because it makes us feel good, but we can’t lose sight of the fact that our home is our biggest place of impact. Our sights should not be set on looking cute only outside the home.
Our home is also the place where we fall into the attitude that we can wear pajamas everyday because we don’t need to go anywhere. That becomes a domino effect. If you are living in stretchy pants, your brain is primed for laziness. That’s fine for a day, but don’t let a day turn into a week, turn into a month, turn into a year, and five years later still be wearing nursing bras and have no clothes that fit in your closet. If we are dressed and primed, we have the ability to prime our emotions when we look in the mirror. If you find yourself hiding from the mirror, that is where the problem is starting. You are hiding from yourself, you are hiding from the world.
It’s all about mindset. If you just roll with the day, you will be reactive instead of proactive and you will never really attach getting dressed to a why. If you say I want to get dressed because I want to show up as a better mother, a better wife, a better business owner. I want to show up to the fullest and live my purpose. You need to get dressed for that.
Getting Dressed Should be Fun And Easy
Jammie Baker has created the MomiForm system. How much easier would life be if we could just get a uniform for being a work from home mom!
This system makes getting dressed simple. It starts with just a few simple questions.
What is your style and who do you want to be today?
Minimalist?
Boho?
Classic and structured?
Eccentric?
What do you like?
What do you want to wear?
Next find out what your body shape is and what the best silhouette is for you.
Our closet needs to match our life today.
What are you doing today?
What size are you today?
What do you do in a typical month?
We need to zoom out and look at what we do with our life and if our closet matches that or not. The answer to all these questions is the answer to what you need to have in your closet in order to have something to wear and they need to be the size you are today, not the size you want to be.
Are you saying when I lose 10 pounds I’ll buy a new pair of pants? or When I get that better job I’ll buy a new dress?
You have to get dressed now to prime your brain for what you are doing. You can’t just wait for this day to come when you are in the perfect position or the perfect size to have the perfect wardrobe. When you wear things that fit you, you actually look a thousand times more attractive. Trying to fit into things that don’t fit you is when you don’t look the way you are hoping to.
Your Mindset Is Where It All Starts
How do we address the woman who doesn’t like her body shape because she had kids and doesn’t even what to go there? It is a mental exercise more than the physical aspect of getting dressed. Say I am worthy today. Get to a place where your body is something that you are grateful for. Your stomach may not be your favorite part, but look at it with the perspective that your body did wonderful things. Your stomach grew babies. The squishy stomach may not be what you like, but it did an amazing thing. Be proud. When your pants fit you, mom pooch or not, you will look smaller.
How can I dress my body well? When you treat your body well, you dress your body well. Drink your water. Move your body. This all leads up to dressing your body well. It’s not about a certain size, it is about caring for your body well and creating those healthy habits around it.
It is important to dress for the shape of your body. Knowing your body shape doesn’t have anything to do with your size. You can be a size 2 or 22 and be the exact same shape. Knowing how to dress your shape is a much better way to approach getting dressed than your size.
“When you look good, you feel good…and when you feel good, you do good – it’s not just about the clothes you wear, but the life that you lead in those clothes.”
Don’t Hide Behind The Flowing Clothes
Bigger on the bottom? Then bring in your waist. A universal tip that works for EVERYONE is that a high waisted pant is going to be the most slimming and look the best no matter the size or shape. Putting on clothes that are 3 sizes too big to hide the tummy doesn’t work. The shirt that is 3 sizes too big makes you look 3 times bigger. You are going to look smaller if you just wear pants and a shirt that fits. We have been believing the myth that if we put on a flowing shirt to hide our belly, no one will know it’s there. Well, it’s a myth. The flowing clothes don’t help.
We hide behind the thought that people are going to judge because we are showing off our not so flat tummy, but they aren’t. They are going to look at where you visually bring their eyes. That will be to the smallest part of your waist and they are going to think “how does she look so cute and put together?”
Dressing for YOUR body
Dressing for your body shape and your style will make you feel good, you will think less about style and more about all the other things in your day. The clothes will fit so you will not only look smaller but you will feel more comfortable in the clothes you wear.
You answered all the questions, figured out your shape, size and style. But how are you supposed be able to go out and buy all these new clothes? Just how expensive is it to have a wardrobe curated for you? It’s so much more expensive for you to be buying the clearance shirt at Target for that date night when you have nothing to wear, then 2 years later you have 16 clearance shirts that you never wear. You could have spent the same amount of money on 2 or 3 really great outfits that last 5 years that you feel great in.
So curating your wardrobe may seem daunting and expensive and it may take time to get there, it all depends on your life and the time you devote to it, but the key is to be intentional. When you open your closet, you should love everything in there. Money doesn’t mean you have style. You can spend thousands of dollars at a high end store and look like a train wreck, or you can spend 20 dollars at a thrift store on things that fit well and have an amazing wardrobe that makes you look and feel like you have impeccable style. It’s not about money. It’s about intentionality.
Edit Your Wardrobe By Season For A Game Changer!
One way I find it easier to work with the clothing I have and be more intentional is by having more of a capsule wardrobe. Editing my wardrobe by season, here in Texas it ends up being just twice a year, helps to add variety to my clothes and it is less that I have to dig through to find what to wear that day. Being ok with having less can be such a game changer! It saves that brain power you need for the rest of the day when you don’t have to think about the clothes you are going to wear because EVERYTHING in your closet fits you and you feel AMAZING in it. Get dressed with ease and simplicity because the clothes fit. Have confidence to greet the world and not hide from the world in the school pickup line.
