Meet Tara Kay
Tara is a work-from-home mom of two. She has a 7-year-old and a 20-month-old who she lovingly calls her “barnacle baby” because he’s always with her. Tara was initially nervous about losing her independence with a second baby, but she’s embraced it beautifully.
Working part-time from home for a company focused on goal setting and systems, Tara manages everything with her little one always by her side.
I remember those days well when my little ones were constantly on my back and front. It is such a beautiful and taxing season.
How To Break Down Big Tasks Into Manageable Steps
Tara Kay truly excelled in the ESCAPE challenge within the Systemize Your Life community. She even made videos of herself decluttering her entire house, all while her baby was coming in and out of the room.
Tara, who describes herself as having “self-diagnosed” ADHD, loves being part of the SYL community because it provides her with accountability and motivation. She no longer feels isolated with her baby all day. Previously, she struggled with feeling overwhelmed by large projects. Through SYL, she has learned to break down big tasks, like decluttering her entire house, into small, manageable steps.
Now, she approaches big tasks differently. She identifies the root cause of the problem and strategizes to eliminate it. Filming herself decluttering added an extra layer of accountability, ensuring she stayed focused and avoided distractions like her phone.
“Imagine wanting to become a swimmer. At first, you might feel like you’re drowning, but as you practice, you get better, build muscle, and eventually, even if you’re a little under the weather or wearing clothes, swimming becomes second nature. That is what learning systems is like.”
Community And Authentic Connection Is Incredibly Powerful
Tara now tackles big tasks with a whole new mindset. She digs deep to find the root cause of the problem and then creates a strategy to eliminate it. Plus, she found that making videos of herself decluttering added an extra layer of accountability, keeping her off her phone and on task.
Being part of the SYL community is incredibly powerful. There’s so much opportunity for progress, and there’s a real sense of accomplishment and comfort knowing you’re not alone. So many women are right there with you, navigating the same challenges.
Mind Tricks To ESCAPE Your Clutter
Here’s what I know for sure: you don’t need a professional organizer. You just need to trick your brain a bit, and that’s where I come in as a coach and leader. I work hard to energize our community and reward those who truly show up for challenges like the ESCAPE challenge.
Tara dedicated just 20 minutes a day, five days a week for two weeks, and managed to declutter her entire home. Now, she also knows how to quickly tackle any corner that starts to get out of hand. This skill is essential to ensure molehills don’t turn into mountains.
Letting Systems Do The Heavy Lifting
Tara proudly calls herself a “course junkie.” She’s always had a long-term goal to “get her stuff together,” and while the intention was there, she just needed to show up without getting bogged down by “boring routines.” Tara understands she needs systems that work for her. She had a vision of what she wanted her home and life to look like but needed guidance to avoid burning out before even starting.
Once Tara grasped the basics, she could add her own flair, making it enjoyable for her. Knowing the rules allowed her to tweak the framework, adding the novelty she craves. With the foundational tools she gained from SYL, she can always reset and get back to basics.
It’s like setting a health goal. Imagine wanting to become a swimmer. At first, you might feel like you’re drowning, but as you practice, you get better, build muscle, and eventually, even if you’re a little under the weather or wearing clothes, swimming becomes second nature.
I feel immense pride for every student in the SYL community. It’s a true honor when someone embraces my beliefs and methodology. My goal is to ensure that everyone experiences incredible success. It’s not about getting everything done perfectly; it’s about developing that muscle memory.
How To Build Authentic Connection
Tara Kay, married to an engineer, has experienced a transformative impact on her family relationships through the SYL systems. Tara often raves about how these systems have strengthened her connections within her family. Authentic connection fosters collaboration, and with strong trust, respect, and communication, Tara now feels genuinely present in her relationship with her husband.
This newfound presence has made her feel more like part of a team, which has significantly reduced feelings of resentment. Tara and her husband now operate as a unified team, making it easy for her to make small requests without feeling like a dictator. This sense of teamwork and connection has been a game-changer for her family dynamics.
